Pancake Day or "Shrove Tuesday" is the day before Lent - the 40-day period during which many Christians give things up in preparation for the Feast of Easter.
Pancakes are traditionally eaten on this day to use up rich foods such as milk, butter and eggs before the fasting of Lent begins.
